Labeling Mrs. Creswell

We have been practicing labeling our drawings when we write.  You will see a paper coming home that we used to label Pete the Cat.  This afternoon we got a little silly and we labeled Mrs. Creswell!

Becoming Authors!!!

Today we got our first opportunity to write in our journals!  We are excited about becoming authors.  The focus of our writing will be the CONTENT.  Mechanics of writing (capitals, punctuation, spelling, etc.) will also be covered, but I really want the kids to enjoy writing and sharing their stories.

Daily 5 -- Read to Self

Jay is showing us what "Read to Self" should look like during our Daily 5 time.  He got started right away, he is staying in one spot, he is reading the whole time, and using a quiet voice.

We are excited to practice reading during this time, because we know that you get better at reading when you PRACTICE.  It is just like swimming and soccer and t-ball....you've got to practice.

We also know that there are 3 ways to read a book.  We can...
1.  Read the PICTURES
2.  Read the WORDS, and
3.  Retell a story we have heard before

Recognizing Numbers 1-6

We rolled one die and looked to see if we could find the same number on our paper.  They did a great job following directions and recognizing the numbers!

Today the kindergartners talked about what a good line should look like.  We decided together that we should...
• keep our hands by our sides
• go behind the last person
• stay in your spot in line
• be quiet
• keep our feet on the floor
• stand or walk
• face the front
• follow the person in front of us

We took pictures of what good and bad lines look like.  We know that we will not be ready to leave in our line until we have a "5 point line".

Happy Birthday Kasia

Kasia turned 5 yesterday and we couldn't wait to celebrate with her today.

First Day of Kindergarten!!!!!!!!!

We were very excited to begin our kindergarten year.  This picture will be in the newspaper soon.  We read a really fun book today about "Pete the Cat".  Ask us about it.

Open House!!!!!

I am getting very excited about seeing all of you tonight at open house.  The classroom will be open from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Please stop in and look around.  Kindergartners should bring all of their school supplies to open house.  See you tonight!
